Effective Business Writing Workshop

Margaret Austin, Write Limited, Wellington

Improve your professional writing skills with this course

Learn how to write documents that work - from brief emails to lengthy reports! This workshop is suitable for anyone who has to write business documents, from a range of organisations including businesses, government departments and community groups.

Do you want to quickly improve your writing skills? This workshop will show you how to immediately connect with your reader by using better words and organising your thoughts more clearly.

This practical workshop will help you to:

  • write from your reader’s point of view
  • use an appropriate plain English style
  • structure a document effectively
  • present a document attractively
  • identify the strengths and weaknesses of your own writing.

Workshop topics include:

  • choosing words that work - using precise familiar words, deleting surplus words, using verbs rather than nouns, using an appropriate tone
  • using short simple sentences
  • using a logical, well-considered structure - planning before you write, using headings to guide your reader, making action statements clear

This is an interactive, hands-on workshop. Please bring along some of your own writing to work with during the workshop (no commercially sensitive content).

Includes lunch, morning and afternoon tea and a comprehensive workbook.
