This workshop is suitable for anyone who runs meetings or facilitates group discussions in the context of their paid work or their voluntary work in the community. It is an introductory workshop which will provide participants with essential facilitation skills.

This Essential Facilitation Skills workshop will answer these questions:

What is facilitation?

  • The role of a facilitator.
  • Skills and qualities of an effective facilitator.
 

Planning and setting objectives

  • Identify what you want to achieve and clearly articulate these goals.
  • Preparation needed to ensure your outcomes are achieved.
 

Effective communication

  • Engaging participants, building rapport, ice breakers, effective questioning techniques, and awareness of body language.
 

Learning styles

  • Making use of all sensory and learning styles.
  • Find out more about your own learning style and what that means for your facilitation.
  • Strategies for connecting with participants.
 

Group dynamics

  • Understanding group dynamics.
  • Strategies for dealing with issues such as: resistance, disruptive behaviour, dominating personalities, conflict.
 

Consensus

  • Building consensus and working towards group agreement.
 

Evaluation

  • How to check if you have achieved your objectives and met the needs of your group.

Includes lunch, morning and afternoon tea and handout material.

 

The Presenter

Jennifer Ross is well known locally as an experienced facilitator and trainer who has worked extensively in both public and private sector organisations. As well as a Masters degree in Counselling, and a Certificate in Executive Coaching, she has a Bachelor of Arts and a Diploma in Teaching. Jennifer’s facilitation style is lively and enthusiastic, enabling workshop participants to gain skills and confidence in a safe and stimulating learning environment.
