Services for Not for Profit Organisations

The art of innovation is to throw yourself at failure and miss
Richard Taylor, Weta Digital

Working with community

Our work with the not-for-profit sector spans Venture Group’s skill base, and helps fufill our commitment to enriching the communities we live in and the lives of those who live in them.

Two particular areas of work are specifically related to community organisations and communities - accessing financial assistance for community based projects; and undertaking social development reports.
We also frequently undertake Business Health Checks to assist organisations to review their effectiveness and build their organisational and staff capability and capacity.

Social research

Venture Group’s skill base and background covers social and community development, community work and education at all levels. Our social research work includes:

  • research projects
  • report writing
  • stock-take reports
  • case studies
  • evaluation
  • needs assessment
  • feasibility studies
  • consultation
  • interviewing

Capability building

Venture Group has extensive experience in assisting organizations and businesses to improve their management systems and practices. We can help organizations with:

  • project management
  • strategic planning
  • annual business planning
  • leadership and management
  • developing Quality Management Systems and Quality Assurance Systems
  • reviewing and rewriting policies
  • writing action plans
  • training needs assessments

Major funding applications

Venture Group has wide experience writing funding applications. We work with organisations to create a funding application that has the best chance of being successful. We will:

  • analyse the major focus points of the application
  • identify the organization’s strengths and weaknesses
  • discuss the organization’s history, focus, present level of development
  • discuss approaches and issues
  • gather all appropriate data
  • in consultation with the organization, complete the application

Oral & social history

Venture Group is skilled in Oral and Social History recording. Oral Histories preserve original, first–hand stories and accounts for future generations and are used in research by museums, councils, libraries, migrant services, or individuals wanting to record family histories or biographies. Venture Group fully manages oral history projects, from identifying possible people to interview, to abstracting and digitizing the interviews.

Oral history material is digitally recorded and the interviews archived, along with support photos and other material where available. Oral histories are a valuable and frail record of human histories, which can be obliterated within a generation or two, and we feel that recording these personal stories alongside the numbers and facts of history will enrich our cultural history immeasurably.
Venture Group will:
  • identify suitable people to be interviewed
  • interview people using digital recording
  • edit and add other relevant material such as photographs, articles
  • write abstracts
  • archive the information.

Not for profit organisations we have worked with include:

  • Arts Access Aotearoa
  • English for Speakers Of other Languages Home Tutors (ESOLHT) Whangarei
  • He Puna Marama
  • Kawakawa Community Trust
  • Rawene & Districts Community Development Inc
  • The Papermill
  • Whangarei Council of Social Services
  • Whangarei Library Foundation
  • CHART North
  • Centre for International Development
